Ace of Cakes

Isn't calling.

Let's backtrack...

A few days ago a friend asked if I would bake a cake for her daughter's third birthday. A cute occasion for a cake! I told my friend that I can bake a cake, but I'm not a cake decorator. She insisted that a simple, chocolate pound cake was what she wanted to serve her guests. Maybe some baking M&M's baked in for decoration.

Okay. I'm your girl. I load up Matilda. (She's my mixer. She lives on my counter so she deserves a name!) All goes well. Lovely recipe, beautiful baking in the oven, fabulous smell in the house. I cool the cake and go to flip her out on the serving tray.

Nothing! Nope. Nada. Not a budge. Twist. Shake. Do the Come-Out-of-the-Pan dance. PLOP! Ugh. The M&M's had sunk to the bottom of the cake (actually the top when you do the whole flip thing) and were sticking to the pan. Badly.

I tried whipping up some glaze to cover the blotched surface of the cake. Bahahahahah-haha.

I was distraught! How could this happen? If I were baking that cake for Nogoodreason it would have been a beauty, but this was quite possiblly the ugliest cake ever.

Then I got the giggles! What else could I do? The cake was a flop. Ace of Cakes isn't calling. The grocery store had a sale on chocolate creme cakes. And Alli is a very cute three year old! (BTW, it tastes absolutely delish!)

Yes, not very attractive...but my flops are usually the best tasting ones too!

You are so funny! I had a bad experience one time with the sinking to the bottom (or top, rather) thing. I thought that I'd impress my DH family and made a veggie mold. Well when I turned it out there was all this yucky pale brown jelly stuff on the top and a mess of veggies on the bottom. As far as tasting good, I wouldn't know, I think someone sneaked it into the garbage. How embarrassing.

Actually--it's usually those nasty looking ones that are the tastiest :)!

And you for sure win the "comment of the day" on my blog---you win....nothing....but me popping over here to tell you your answer was brilliant :)!

Good to hear from you again!

Looks just delicious to me! :0) Ugly, messy food always seems to taste the best.

Oh my goodness! Why oh why do we have these flops when we really really need them to turn out looking nice?! Happens to me all the time.

But hey, it definately looks good enough to eat!

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

(Btw, I had also removed my kids top sheets...so much easier and less laundry! You're right, they dont use them anyway. LOL)

Hi! I had a very similar experience with a chocolate chip bundt cake, but I tried to cut the entire top off and add chocolate glaze. So ugly, but so yummy.

I'm glad I found your blog (or you found mine). I'm a pastor's wife, too, and my degree was in elementary education, so we have a few things in common...

It looks like it might have tasted wonderful though. Too funny!
Thanks for the encouragement about my laminating problem.

Weellll....... it may not win any beauty contests but it looks delicious!! The girl was turning three right? Who cares what it looks like. It's chocolate and that's all most three year olds that I know care about. :-)

Yeah, I hate to say it, but Duff wouldn't want you in his shop. Although, I've always wondered if Charm City Cakes was more about look than taste. You might actually bring a new dimension to his set-up. Don't give up hope just yet. :)

I don't get many sweets anymore so it looks mighty good to me!
