WFMW: A Question of Prayer and Devotion...

This Wednesday I am so excited because I am actually making a WFMW post!!
This week WFMW is enjoying a bit of a twist. Instead of giving a tip that Works for Me, I am to ask for tips. I've battered my brain and now I know what you all should tell me...

How do you organize your prayer time? Now that I'm working everyday and still doing all the stuff moms do, I'm struggling to keep prayer and devotion time a priority. What works for you? Do you have any special tips for remembering what and whom to pray for? Any little "cheat sheets"? Are you keeping your devotional in the bathroom, too? ;)

Go ahead, hit me with your best prayer/devotion tip. Then go visit Shannon at Rocks in My Dryer to see if you can offer some other great suggestions!

As far as prayer goes, I try to pray all throughout the day. If I see something or hear of something that needs prayer - I try to do it right then. I also keep a worry box. I write it down, pray about it, then give it to God.

As far as Bible study...I organized a weekly Bible study with some of my closest friends. We meet at 9:00 pm one night a week. It's late, but all of the kids are down, husbands are playing XBOX Live together, so we do not have a lot distracting us during that time!

Hope that helps. It's awesome that you want for prayer to be a priority! This was a great question, and one that SO MANY of us struggle with as wives and/or moms!

Sometimes a few verses snatched in the bathroom will make the difference!

For prayer, I buy packs of small labeling stickers and write prayer requests and/or names of people to pray for. I stick mine around the house. One on the firg door, a couple on the stove backsplash, on cabinet doors, inside the medicine cabinet - wherever I'm likely to see it regularly as I go about my chores. High priority prayer requests go on the CPU!

I've been working on this some for the last couple of months. It is ever evolving, and I am allowing God to shape it. But here are some things that have evolved for me. First, I want to study the Bible first thing in the morning....sometimes I walk (just started that this month) and almost always I shower first. I have a dining room table that is not really used for eating that my daughter called the "prayer room" the other day b/c Hubby and I both use that table. I just recently started using the New Inductive Study Bible because it has me color in it (marking key words) and it also gives a guideline of things to pull from each of the chapters and it has you come up with the theme for the chapter (no chapter headings already prewritten like many Bibles).

My prayer has become more of a constant thing like Mrs. Brownstone mentioned (if you find your mind wandering, thinking about someone or something....that could be the Holy Spirit leading you to pray for that person). But I also pray a quick prayer before Bible study, requesting God's leading and teaching through the Scripture. Then lately, as He has convicted me THROUGH Scripture, that is how I pray. This is also brand new. I struggled because I was praying the same prayer every morning and it was becoming memorized...if I find myself continually worrying about something, I will pray for that more specifically (and often right when I notice it). Another idea I haven't done but I saw at a friend's house and thought it was a good idea. She cut a cross out of cardboard and put post it notes with specific prayers/requests that she wanted to remember in prayer.

Okay, here's a super long comment...but maybe something will be helpful. That quiet time is so special....I encourage you to continue to allow it to evolve and look to Him for guidance....it could be that it is a very personal thing that He can help you develop around your personality and needs!!

Hi! I TRY to get in my Bible study before my day starts. LOL TRY being the operative word. I need to set the alarm more, instead of my childrens feet in my face waking me first. If I do not get started first thing, it is lots harder to get done at all.
